Beulah Sargent's Travel
Journal of her 1913 trip to California with her mother, Lucy Marston Sargent Beulah Sargent is my paternal
grandmother. Beulah was 24 at the time they took this trip from
their home in Concord, New Hampshire. Lucy was 58. Beulah
collected a large number of picture postcards along the
way, and I have tried to include them where they fit into her journal
entries.
I have tried to keep her spelling and grammar as she wrote it,
and
tried to recreate little drawings she made in the journal. I
think
I have some photos she took too, but haven't found them yet - when I
do,
I will add any that fit. The journal was started midway through their
trip
and stopped before they returned home. It is a delightful slice
of
life from a bygone day. I transcribed the journal using WordPerfect,
and have
created each page as an Adobe Acrobat pdf file. I will add more
as
I get done with them, but in case I don't finish, at least you will
have what
I have transcribed so far. I have included links to websites
regarding the locales of her trip.
