Hand Built Ceramics
this is my final class project from my 2001 ceramics class at the University of Utah

We had to design and complete a teapot - it was to be either autobiographical, fantasy or a social commentary - I immediately thought of this - from one of my favorite children's books,
Where the Wild Things Are
by Maurice Sendak

I received this book as a child, and the little boy, Max, was inspiration for naming my son Max - I have read this story to my own children till we all have it memorized.

the outstretched arm is the spout, Max is the handle, and the horns come off as the lid.

Evergreen & Aspen
A song by Debra Woods
Evergreen and aspen, on an Autumn day,
Clear blue skies above me, white pillars with golden hair,
Deep green boughs are mingled with the rocky canyon wall.
How cound heaven be more beautiful than my Wasatch Canyon love?

There across the valley, a distant mountain range
Hides the sun this evening, where it dips beneath my gaze
Lavender and coral blazing in the sky above
How could heaven be more beautiful than my Wasatch Canyon love?

He brings his gifts to us, greater than words can tell
He fills his world with unspeakable beauty, witness of his love and power.

December morning wakes me to powdered sugar hills
I see my breath before me, the air is crisp and still
Canyon river rushes under sparkling crystal waves
Winter's majesty has robed my love, this is where I want to stay

When my heart is troubled, weighed with heavy care
I run to the canyon to voice my deep despair
There the awe and wonder of the grandeur he has made
And the mountains speak peace to my soul, this is where I want to stay!

He brings his gifts to us, greater than words can tell
He fills his world with unspeakable beauty, witness of his love and power.

High atop the mountain, I found a meadow there.
Summer brings her verdure, with flowers everywhere
Miles are stretched before me in a panoramic view
I have found my heaven here on earth, let me share it, Love, with you.

She's My Sister
A song by Debra Woods

I came and saw her standing there
A lovely face with golden hair
And then is when I knew that we'd be friends
For she and I are sisters.

And as I headed for my home
I saw her walking very slow,
Back bent and hair as white as winter snow--
I smiled at her, my sister.

We are here to share with love,
Our Father up above
Has blessed us with each other.
Together we can shape the world
Or lighten someone's load
Or brighten someone's day.
And as I rushed about my home
So many things went wrong somehow,
But when I came inside my heart was warmed
When I saw all my sisters.

She stood and spoke of all her fears.
She wept and shared with us her joys.
Her faith, it sounded very much like mine,
No wonder, we are sisters.

We are here to share with love
Our Father up above
Has blessed us with each other.
Together we can shape the world
Or lighten someone's load
Or brighten someone's day.
Her skin was dark as were her eyes
She spoke a different tongue than mine
But something that we shared filled all that lacked
For she and I are sisters!
Halfway around the world and still
We try to do his will
And that's the tie that binds us.
Sisters come, those both near and far
No matter where you are
And join with me in prayer . . .
Dear Father thank you for your love,
And for the love that we all share.
Please help us to obey all your commands
And remember we are sisters
Oooo
Please help us to obey all your commands
And always remember we are sisters.
